Koh Lanta, Thailand
A magical, chilled out little island on the Andaman Sea, Koh Lanta is pure heaven. I have been to many of the other Thai islands, but Koh Lanta now holds the title of my favorite. The people are friendly, the food is delicious, and it just has that hippie, relaxed vibe about it that I adore. There is a great mix of things to do in Koh Lanta, without the overcrowding and overwhelming amounts of tourists that other Thai islands get.
How To Get There
If you are flying, the easiest way to get to Koh Lanta is by landing in the Krabi airport. From there, you can take a taxi to the ferry port for around 350 baht.
In addition, other islands also have minivan/boat combos that can be easily arranged by a tour agency.
Things To Do
The great thing about Koh Lanta is there isn’t so much to DO. All you really need to do is be present, soak up the sun, and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the waves. I spent a week on Koh Lanta by myself, and could have spent much more time there.
Rent A Bike
One of my favorite things to do in Koh Lanta was to rent a motorbike and zip around the island. Koh Lanta is fairly easy to navigate, as it has wide, properly paved roads.
Lanta Animal Welfare
If you love animals, make sure to visit Lanta Animal Welfare. They rescue abused or abandoned dogs and cats and find them forever homes.
One of the most magical sunsets I have ever witnessed was on Koh Lanta. After heading back from the National Park (which in my opinion, wasn’t worth the 200 baht), I caught a beautiful sunset on Long Beach. All the locals were standing around watching as well, and it was one of those moments that felt so pure and infinite.
Get A Tattoo
I got my third tattoo done at Lady Luck Tattoo Studio. Getting a bamboo tattoo was an amazing experience, and the artist who did it was so lovely. The bamboo took a little more time, but it was worth it.
Chill On The Beach
There are multiple beaches to visit in Koh Lanta, and some secret beaches that are a little bit harder to reach. Koh Lanta doesn’t have as good of beaches for swimming as some of the other Thai islands, but they are still beautiful. In low season, you can have some of the beaches all to yourself. For a more detailed guide, check out Lanta Island Beach Guide.
Lanta Old Town
Lanta Old Town is a small village on Koh Lanta’s East coast. If you go down a little bit past Old Town, you can visit the Sea Gypsy village and get a taste of local life in Koh Lanta. In addition, there is a lovely little shop, fittingly entitled ‘Happiness’ that sells some cool trinkets and jewelry.
Where I Ate
This place has amazing, healthy vegetarian food and delicious smoothies. The guys that work there are super friendly. I ended up enjoying an espresso and listening to the rainstorm with them for a couple of hours. Great vibes.

What Inspired Me
What I Read
The Kindness Diaries is a book about a man who traveled the world relying solely on the kindness of others. It reminded me that the world is over all a pretty good place, regardless of what the media may tell us.
One of my favorite books concerning meditation, Happy Yoga- 7 Reasons Why There Is Nothing To Worry About is the perfect beach read for those who want to deepen their practice.

- Sometimes, you just have to be present. Fully present. Therefore, no to-do lists, no planning, and no wishing for something different from what you have. If you master that skill, you will find true happiness.
- The path to enlightenment is long, and there will be many setbacks. However, we are all capable of becoming more aware, more enlightened beings.
- A winding road, some headphones, and the wind in your hair while driving a motorbike may just be the cure for anything & everything.
